Lesson 6
A single light

Objective
Create a graphic image which depends on shape for impact.

- Camera position is at the top of a flight of stairs.
- Model is positioned approximately 12" in front of a white wall
which reflects light back as fill. Note that the photo is cropped to eliminate
the wall and accompanying shadow.
Lighting
- #1 A single bank light, positioned as close as possible to minimize
shadows. The bank is positioned about 8 feet off the floor, to supply light
to the top of the hat.
Remember that the density of a shadow is a function of the size
of the light relative to the subject. Exposure f8 @ 1/125th.
Cool Trick!
This one's easy if you have a waist level finder. The camera was
simply held at arms length, pointing straight down. This means the
waist level finder could be used rather than having to build a
shooting platform. You can often use equipment in a new or unusual way.
