THE THIRD ERA
There is a perception that a shift in human society is occurring, whether good or bad. We are either entering the 'Age of Aquarius' or Orwell's '1984', an ecological era or maybe Huxley's 'Brave New World', we still face Armageddon, but if we survive, we may enter a matriarchal era, or in the end it may just be a new millennium. This site will look at these possibilities, and try to make sense of them.
The above image was taken at Loughcrew, a surprisingly sophisticated site, full of megalithic art, near Oldcastle in the Republic of Ireland, which dates from around 4000 BC, a thousand years before the Great Pyramid of Egypt. The fundamental social shift from matricentred society to our current patriarchal era took place in and around that period in human history. The relatively recent re-emergence of the power of women in society, after such a long time, is surely one of the most fundamental ongoing changes taking place in human society, and that change more than anything else marks the opening of the Third Era, and will constitute its essence.
CHANGE AND UNCERTAINTY
It is to some extent understandable that the multiple changes taking place disorientate people, and also threaten those in power. Men in particular feel the pressure, and our male leaders, even those leading women who often act like men, are in many cases reacting very badly. If we are lucky, the transition will take place without total disruption of the planet, and without a fundamentalist type reversion to some more extreme form of patriarchy which would undo the progress to date. There is a sort of struggle going on to decide which road we will take, and current events can be viewed within this framework.
The ELITES have their own agenda to maintain the status quo, and develop a global governance system of their choosing. In this context a study of the elite groups is helpful, and two useful sources are Tony Gosling's site and the Trilateral Commission's own website.
Events which unfolded in Kosovo called for a response, especially as we are subject to seemingly endless and frustrating propaganda. The ongoing events, while tragic in themselves, also signal some of the forces that are shaping our world, in particular the power obsession of patriarchal structures, and thus contribute to our understanding as to how our Third Era will emerge.
NATO, and in particular the ambitions of the USA, are central to all of this, and an article by in Covert Action Quarterly (Winter '99) gives a very comprehensive summary on this called "NATO and beyond"
In light of events we need to look at alternative means of tackling these serious conflict problems, something that Swedish Green Member of the European Parliament, Per Gahrton, has been doing - see his "Refuse Violence".
The European Union provides a further useful source of study, especially as it has been propelled into the limelight in no uncertain fashion in recent years. How this connects with the overall theme is maybe not immediately apparent, but then it is a largely male-run institution, set up for the purpose of defending established structures, and may therefore be seen as one of the last bastions of patriarchy. This analysis wil be developed as we go.
The events of that last few years have highligted how the EU and US are working together on the project of world domination, and it becoming clear that the idea of the EU as a counterbalance to the USA is a nonsense, as argued in the first part of an incomplete new piece: "THE EUROPEAN UNION HAS FAILED TO OVERCOME ITS COLONIAL PAST", now incorporated into a larger piece, called "A Geostrategic View of the Kosovo Crisis".
The issues dealt with until recently as the Adviser to the Green/EFA Group in the European Parliament were Energy (and formerly Research), and a lot of material was prepared in that function. A page called "Papers on Energy and Electromagnetic Weapons" roughly assembles some of the more potentially useful material on nuclear power the Euratom Treaty, energy saving and renewable energy, plus a special on the new and seriously worrying area of Electromagnetic Weapons.
