     Game mode: Doom 2; Map01.
     Executable: No port needed.
Recommended Categories: Nightmare! Pacifist (or UV Pacifist, or Max, or Tyson).
Difficulty Rating: 4 (Very hard to stay alive; UV Pacifist is easy though; UV Fast Max and UV Fast Tyson are quite difficult).
Par Time: 40 seconds (10 minutes for UV Fast Max).

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to dodge a large number of monsters beneath a sky thick with fireballs of several colours. :)

Fireworks (FIREWRKS.WAD) is a wad that has only recently appeared in /newstuff, but was made in early 1996. It is by Francois Coppex, who also rereleased a number of other wads at the same time.
It's a fairly simple map, consisting of a large open area and one building. I wouldn't say it's a great map (e.g. ammo balance is terrible - there are way too many shells), but it isn't atrocious, and it does make for fun Pacifist play.
To record a successful Nightmare! Pacifist run, you'll need to be quick and accurate - and have a fairly large slice of luck. By the way, I don't think standard Nightmare! is any quicker or easier; the sound of your weapon will attract unwanted attention and most importantly will activate the mancubuses so that they may block your route to the switch and megasphere.
The first task is to pick up the yellow key without taking too much damage (see the first picture). I find it is best to sneak between the hell knight and the imps on the way to the key; after picking up the key, just go for any gap that presents itself. The toughest area, and the one where I die most often, is inside the building where you get the blue key. Even if you enter with 100% health and armour, there is no guarantee you will emerge in one piece. You also need to be quick; if you take too long, the exit from the building will be blocked by cacodemons.
You then have to run to the other end of the map to press a switch. You will be quite low on health by this point, so you will need to dodge fireballs/spectres quite well. It's not too difficult though. You will probably want to pick up the megasphere, but possibly this can be skipped to save time (in a UV Pacifist run, it can definitely be skipped). Then it's a dash back to the building to exit the map. You've just got to hope nothing is blocking the doorway, or that you can squeeze past anything that is. If you're really lucky, you might get an imp holding the door open for you.
UV Fast Max makes quite an interesting challenge too, but it is hard to imagine it being done very quickly. There are too many fireballs flying around to permit a very brave approach, and not enough plasma or rockets to be able to gun down the monsters too rapidly. The UV Fast Max demo I have provided is just to show where everything is - it is quite slow and fairly cautious, and I wasn't very lucky with the infighting. It should be possible to improve the time by a fair margin. UV Tyson is feasible too, and not so difficult, since infighting takes care of most of the monsters. UV Fast Tyson is fairly challenging, and some care is needed when dealing with the monsters high up in the building. NM100S is fairly similar to NM - you just need to make a small detour (see the "secrets" demo).
