Grazza's Pages - About Me

I am a co-owner and director of Gambit Publications Ltd. It is a London-based publishing company specializing in chess books. I founded it in early 1997 together with two well-known grandmasters. I had previously worked for a general publishing company that had a major chess list. I departed following a fundamental disagreement with the management over the future direction the chess list should take.

I have also written some chess books - 20 at the last count. One of them, The Mammoth Book of Chess, won the British Chess Federation Book of the Year Award in 1997.

For two years (1991-3) I lived in Denmark. My accommodation (in Svendborg) and some other living expenses were paid for by Skakklub Sydøstfyn, for whom I played in team competitions. I also coached some of their players.

I have a degree in mathematics from Cambridge University. I was at Downing College (matriculation year: 1986). I specialized in courses run by the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics.

I am a keen skier (I generally spend at least three weeks a year skiing), and play quite a lot of computer games, most notably Doom.
