Haemochromatosis, or GH short for Genetic Haemochromatosis, is a genetic disorder where the body absorbs an excessive amount of iron from the diet which is then deposited in various organs, mainly the liver, but also the pancreas, endocrine glands, and joints. When great quantities are stored in the liver it becomes enlarged, and deposits of iron in the pancreas, heart and other organs, endocrine glands and joints cause serious damage to tissue.
Aims of the Haemochromatosis Society. To support people with GH by providing help with their problems and ensuring that their brothers, sisters and children are tested in due time. A newsletter is published giving news and views from members. To promote AWARENESS among the health professions, patients and their families, the general public and policy makers so that the condition may be diagnosed and treated in time.
