Very Important Check List for Using Technology in Public Speaking

There was a panel discussion at the District conference and one of the presenters got up to speak, went back for his 'clicker' (remote control for the computer running the power point presentation) began to speak clicked the clicker for the next slide and ...nothing happened. After several tries he had some sit at the computer and press a key every time he said "click". So he was explaining "blah blah blah - 'CLICK' - blah blah blah - 'CLICK' - blah blah..."

The very important lesson of this is Always test your technology right before the speech!

Here are some other very important items to check off before using technology in a speech:

• Test your equipment before beginning your speech
• Bring an extra extension cord, and a three-prong adapter
• Test your equipment while there is still time to fix it (i.e. at home)
