For the August 16th Steering committee meeting, in keeping with district tradition, I was asked to present a toast at the opening of the meeting. I discovered a few items: The specialty speeches manual (at least my copy) no longer has a 'Giving a Toast' project. It's hard to write a toast for a business meeting, especially if you've never seen how they give a toast at a business meeting, and even harder when all you have to work with is the district theme "Make a Difference" and the fact that you are speaking to district officers. Finally, it is sometimes important to remind people to have their glass (cup, mug) handy when the toast is going on.

But I question whether such people do lead anything, for after they have passed there is no difference. What a waste if we live without ever having made a difference. Therefore, let us have Vision, Insight and Passion, so that we do "Make a Difference." Italics added. |
