Why TLI?

Who should attend TLI?

While TLI is the primary officer training program for District 53 it is also useful to, and open to, all other Toastmasters. Club officers should definitely attempt to attend, so they can be trained in performing there duties effectively, meet other club and district officers and have an opportunity to plan for the upcoming year. All other members should also consider attending. There are classes at TLI for new members, webmasters, experienced members who want to participate effectively in contests, evaluations and special programs.

TLI is also an excellent chance to meet your fellow toastmasters and find out what other clubs are doing. Does your club have a special feature of your meetings that you think would benefit and interest? Here's a chance to share it with other clubs so they can improve their programs.

The district has made an effort to see that all members can attend, benefit from and enjoy TLI.

Retraining

Do officers who have previously attended TLI officer training for their position need to be retrained by attending TLI again? It is highly recommended. Not only will TLI serve as a refresher but it will allow the officer to learn new ideas about performing the duties of the office. Also, there are more interesting classes at TLI than anyone could attend in a single year, with new classes added yearly, so a member can experience new things no matter how often they attend TLI.

Time, Expense, Location and Lunch

TLI is pleasant, fun, educational, inexpensive and convenient. (Well, depending where you live, convenient. TLI is held in Hartford which is centrally located and has good highways. This may not be conveniently located if you live in Albany which is in area F-1 but is better than places where the roads are bad too).

The facilities available at Rensselaer at Hartford are excellent. A satisfying lunch (and a continental breakfast) is provided as part of the $12.00 registration fee (you must register before July 25th to be assured of lunch). I don't know where else you can get breakfast, lunch and an enjoyable and educational presentation for only $12.

Registration

Directions, course information and registration are available at: TLI Registration on the District 53 Web site

Note: Officers who attend TLI, please remember to go through registration and (very important) turn in your paperwork at the end so your club gets credit for having had officers trained. Not only is officer training part of the DCP (Distinguished Club Plan) but there is a special award for clubs that get all 7 of their officers trained. (Yes, members holding 2 offices, like Treasurer/Secretary, who are trained count as having 2 officers trained).
