THE MISSION OF CHESHIRE TOASTMASTERS

The mission of a Toastmasters Club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
. . . and to have some fun while doing it!

Italics indicate Cheshire Toastmaster's specific adaptation of the Mission Statement.

Our Success Stories
In Real Life

Actually, we don't like to brag, but our Vice-President of Education spotted an old member making good use of what Toastmasters teachs. This points out several of the skills we deem important:

"I'm not sure how many of you that have been around awhile in our group have seen <J.B's> television commercial for his <company>, but I'll tell you, his training in our group paid off. I saw it yesterday (Lifetime, I think) while my husband was channel surfing, and I was doing something else. The name caught my attention, and I looked up, and there was <J.>.
Good gestures, walked around a bit while talking, looked comfortable and no um's!"

(I don't have permission from the member described so I've removed names and substituted initials.)
At a Speech Contest

I was talking to the winner of a Toastmaster's Area Level Speech Contest she told me:

"I've only been in Toastmasters for a year and when I started I couldn't string two UMs together."

(Demonstrating that if you join Toastmasters and work hard you can really learn.)
Unexpected Success

One of our members described an occurrence at work: She had to attend a series of meetings, which she felt unprepared for, present material on the fly, and was under extreme pressure.

Afterwards her colleagues complimented her on how composed she had been and how well she had done.

Apparently, they were complimenting her on how composed she appeared,
skills she politely attributes to her Toastmasters experience.
