Notes and news for District 53 Division D Area 3

Greetings!

My name is Richard Frantz Jr. and I am the 2003-2004 Area governor for Area D-3. I'm looking forward to an educational, exciting and enjoyable year. This page will eventually become a site to display news and information useful to the members of Toastmasters in D-3.

Here's my 'mug shot' from the District 53 Directory.

Honest! I look better in person (and I'm a lot more fun than this picture indicates).

What's a Speechcraft?

I demanded that Millie Calesky, our district 53 Speechcraft Coordinator, give me a answer in only one paragraph. Here is her answer:

Speechcraft is a public speaking course put together by TM. It is put on by individual clubs and offered to the public. It is an excellent way to promote TM and to attract new members. It is presented in 4, 6, or 8 sessions. During these sessions, participants get to write and present speeches. If they decide to join the club, they get credit toward their CTM. TM International has created a Speechcraft Coordinator's manual that provides all the info necessary to run the Speechcraft course (item 204 in the catalog). Each participant receives a speechcrafter's handbook (item 204-H in the catalog.) There is also a starter kit available.

Goals

In order to have achievement it is necessary to have goals. Goals should be attainable, objective, measurable and useful. Toastmasters international has established 10 goals as the Club Distinguished plan. Then the District gives Area Governors a set of 4 goals that summarize all of those. I'm going to simplify it to be even easier here.

A succcessful club requires 3 things:
  1. Good Members
  2. Good Meetings
  3. Good Officers

Good Officers

Good officers are a combination of good, dedicated, motivated people and good training.

Good training is the responsibility of the District. The premier officer training for District 53 is Toastmaster Leadership Institute (aka TLI). TLI will be held this year on Saturday August 2nd, 2003 at Rensselaer at Hartford (used to be called the Hartford Graduate Center).

TLI for 2003 has past. About what you missed at TLI.
