FICSA Update No. 60 2001

Efforts to Restore Peace in Sierra Leone Take Again Their Toll

We have the sad duty to announce that a helicopter with the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) plunged into the sea in the evening of 7 November 2001 near the coast of the capital Freetown. The aircraft was carrying seven UN personnel (four Ukrainian crew members, one Bulgarian civilian and two Zambian military staff). Initial indications are that the cause of the accident is mechanical.
