FICSA Update No. 02 2001

FICSA welcomes two new FUNSAs

  1. Last week, FICSA completed a postal vote to admit among its members, with observer status:

    Both were unanimously admitted.

  2. This brings the total number of Federations of United Nations Staff Associations (FUNSAs) with observer status in FICSA to 16. They are from: Argentina, Bangladesh, Burundi, Cameroon, Chile, Ghana, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan and Uruguay.

  3. We wish to congratulate the colleagues in Madagascar and Morocco for their initiative which undoubtedly will strengthen the voice of the international civil servants.

  4. It is recalled that FICSA speaks for 26 Member Associations and Unions from 21 organizations and 6 regional offices. It also has 2 Associate Members and 21 Members with consultative status. FICSA is the largest network of international civil servants and is affiliated to Public Services International (PSI), a trade union federation with more than 500 affiliates in over 140 countries.

    We also wish to acknowledge the receipt of a donation of 200 Swiss francs from a staff member from the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), an organization closely linked to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The sum corresponds to the costs awarded by the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization in Judgement No. 1842.
