    In December 2001, FICSA...

    ...Welcomed a new associate member

  1. On 10 December 2001, the Staff Association of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) was admitted in FICSA as an associate member (see FICSA Update No. 64).

    ...Participated in an ICSC Working Group on Pay and Benefits Systems

  2. FICSA President Bernard P. Grandjean and General Secretary André J. Heitz participated, in Vienna from 3 to 7 December, in a Working Group on Pay and Benefits Systems convened by the International Civil Service Commission (see FICSA Update No. 65).

  3. The FICSA President used the occasion of his presence in Europe to meet with the IAEA Staff Association in Vienna and with the Geneva-based members and associate members.

  4. In Geneva, the FICSA President also met with:
    1. Mr. Mike Shone, Chairperson of the ILO Staff Union;
    2. Mr. Carlos Rodriguez, International Organization for Standardization (ISO);
    3. Ms. Salika Wenger, General Secretary of Equité (see FICSA Update No. 61 / 2001);
    4. Ms. Betsy Thurston, President, IFRC Staff Association.
  5. In Vienna, the FICSA President also met with;
    1. Mr. Adam Bouloukos, President of the Staff Council of the United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV);

    2. Mr. F. Fazlagic, President of the Staff Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

    ...Participated in the ICSC Working Group on the Classification of Duty Stations According to Conditions of Life and Work

  6. FICSA was represented at the meeting, held in New York from 12 to 14 December, by Ms. Judey Austin (UNDP, Executive Committee member), Mr. Stephan Flaetgen (UNFPA), Mr. Reto Florin (FAO) and Ms. Anne Marie Pinou (FICSA Research and Liaison Officer).

  7. FICSA provided legal advice to a staff member of IMO.

  8. FICSA provided legal advice to staff members of UNEP in Mexico.

  9. Mr. Basharat Ahmad, President of FUNSA Pakistan and Chairman of the FICSA Standing Committee on Conditions of Service in the Field, received congratulations from Mr. Mohamed Salem, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Islamabad, for his and his colleagues’ contribution to the success of a mini salary survey. We extend our congratulations to them as well.

  10. Mr. Osvaldo Bastida, FICSA Expert and Resource Person, announced that the comprehensive salary survey conducted in Brazil yielded an increase of 10.4 per cent for General Service staff and 40 per cent for National Professional officers. Mr. Bastida was associated to the survey by the Local Salary Survey Committee, despite the reticence manifested by the survey specialists from headquarters. We extend our congratulations to all participants in the exercise.
