of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts, USA is situated
in South Park (next to the Swiss Life building).
The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, established a Church consisting of a Mother Church and branches throughout the world the purpose of which was to "reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual). The BIBLE and the Christian Science textbook, SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES written by Mary Baker Eddy, she ordained as the Pastor of the Church of Christ, Scientist. These are our only preachers.
Christian Science has been represented in Sevenoaks for over 100 years. In 1904 the first group of Christian Scientists came together and two years later they had rented a small hall for the holding of services.The Sevenoaks Christian Science Society was established in 1910 and in 1912 they moved into a temporary church building near the General Post Office. It wasn't until 1925 that the Society became a fully fledged branch church, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Sevenoaks, and has been holding weekly Sunday Church Services, a Sunday School, and Wednesday evening Testimony Meetings ever since. A new church building was completed on its present site, (formerly the boating pool of the Lime Tree Hotel!) in 1936 and in 1950 the two-manual pipe organ was built and installed by J.W. Walker & Sons.
SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES and SUNDAY SCHOOL are held at 11 a.m., and TESTIMONY MEETINGS on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
