Now is your chance :

In June 2001, the Long Range Air race will take-off from Reykjavik in Iceland, fly to Caen in France, where the D-Day beaches are, then Sevilla in Spain for the opening ceremony of the Games, Beirut in Lebanon, then Las Palmas and end in Spain at Jerez for the closing ceremony.

The Long Range Air Race will begin in Iceland on June 19, 2001 and will end in Jerez, Spain, on July 1.

The Long Range Air Race is open to aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 6 tons, either single or twins fitted with piston, turboprop or jet engines. They must hold a regular airworthiness certificate (homebuilts are welcome, but no ferry permits or other special airworthiness certificates please). A minimum airspeed of 130 knots is required (75 % power setting, sea level). Additional fuel tanks are not allowed in the cabin, and they must be STCed (or national equivalent) elsewhere.

Crews are composed of a captain and a copilot (passengers are accepted). Minimum requirements for captains are 500 hours, including 100 hours as IFR command pilot with a valid IFR rating, type rating if required, 10 hours on the type of aircraft flown for the race and an international radio license where applicable. Copilots should have at least 200 hours including 10 on type and a type rating if necessary, an international radio license where required and be current for night-VFR flights. Copilots may act as Pilot in Command on sectors flown under Visual Flight Rules.

More information on air races is available on the About Air Races page.

Entries are limited to only 30 aircraft and crews, so act today !
