Karel Capek's futuristic 1923 play (which introduced the word robot into the English language) is the basis for a chilling look into the near future. Whereas Fritz Lang's Metropolis incorrectly predicted that man would be enslaved by machines, RUR - Rossum's Universal Robots - accurately envisaged that man would be replaced by machines. This is the ultimate - some would say inevitable - conflict between man and machine.
