Railpass Options


Choosing the best railpass option for Europe was easier 15 years ago because the selection was limited to less than 25 "Eurailpass" products. An up-to-date discussion, whether you have used railpasses before or not, requires a little background information. There are now over 30,000 different "Eurailpass" combinations possible.


Basic Things to Know about Railpasses

(Note: Read this important set of paragraphs before proceeding)


In the year 2008, the major categories of railpasses are:


Eurail Selectpass (for 3, 4, or 5 adjoining countries)

Valid for 5, 6, 8, 10 or 15 Days within 2 Months - this product is designed for EITHER one person traveling in 1st class OR 2nd class youth (under age 26)

Note: Romania became a country option for Selectpasses starting in the year 2004. Since 2005, it is also possible to obtain the region(s) of "Slovenia/Croatia" and/or "Bulgaria/Serbia/Montenegro". Each of these new regions, like the region BENELUX for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, is considered one "country" on the Selectpass. The newest country option is Bulgaria.


Eurail Selectpass Saver (for 3, 4, or 5 adjoining countries)

Valid for 5, 6, 8, 10 or 15 Days within 2 Months - this product is designed for small groups of up to 5 people who travel together (on one ticket) - 1st class only


Eurail Global passes (for 20 countries) - Consecutive Days of Travel

Eurail Global (Flexi-) Passes (for 20 countries) - 10 or 15 Days within 2 Months


Eurail Global Saverpasses (for 20 countries) - Designed for Consecutive-day Travel in Groups of up to 5 People


Eurail Global (Flexi-) Saverpasses (for 20 countries) - Designed for Groups of up to 5 People - 10 or 15 Days within 2 Months
