A Note to the Seeker
If you are considering seeking healing, therapy or whatever, be aware that our personal set of beliefs strongly limits what we see and experience about ourselves and about the world around us. And this is never more true than when we feel somewhat overwhelmed by life - the very moment we may consider reaching for advice or help. Yet we are more than our verbal mind and its locked patterns. We have hidden wisdom and strengths as well as hidden fears. I would suggest that the deepest level of healing and relief occurs when we follow two paths of discovery about ourselves. We discover the "hidden" parts of ourselves that are strong, flexible, loving and able to feel connection with the world. (Part of this work is sometimes called Spiritual Healing.) And at the same time we work to discover, name and release our hidden fears. You may be drawn to only one of these two paths at this time. If so, try to hold the other in mind for the future. And if you are seeking relief from physical symptoms or disease, take a moment to truly feel the burden of carrying this experience of dis-ease within you. Healing involves this inner experience as well as your physical body.
Energy work is especially effective on the first path. When combined with other tools, it can also be very effective on the second path. Psychospiritual healing is a more focused process that works beautifully on the second path, yet fully supports the unfolding of the first.
Healing Perspective
Each of us has a part of ourselves that seeks a sense of personal balance and inner peace. Each of us also has an inner ability to heal. We are most familiar with this from our body's process of physical healing but the healing ability extends to the emotional and spiritual parts of ourselves as well. These three parts of ourselves affect each other and our sense of whether we are in balance. Because our culture skips over this larger view, the wish for balance may remain an unanswered feeling deep within. We may find ourselves locked into the thinking part of our minds, having forgotten our hearts. Or wandering lost in our emotions. Or fearful of changes in our body. Or grieving loss of loving relationship. Trusting ourselves beyond the routine in our lives can be hard.
Energy Healing
Energy healing and balancing reaches through the stress and confusion of everyday life and gently touches your inner world. It can be used simply to feel good or to support a period of stress, challenge or change in your life. Energy work returns us to our place of balance and facilitates our inner healing process. Used with guided imagery, it can be an opportunity to intuitively explore our inner world and expand our perception of ourselves. Part of healing occurs as we get to know our true self.
The energy offered in a session is universal and healing in nature, not the practitioner's personal energy. The work is interpreted through the chakra energy system model. A general reference would be Barbara Brennan's book "Hands of Light". There is no need to believe in or learn this model in order to experience the session.
Healing is ultimately your personal experience arising from deep within, not something read in a book. Both you and the practitioner respond to what you bring to the work in your body, heart, mind and spirit.
In a session:
After spending a few minutes getting acquainted with the practitioner, you lie down on a massage table in a warm, comfortable room with your clothes on. Soothing background music is available if desired. This is hands on work so the practitioner uses touch at various points on your body, working from feet to head.
Experiences during a session vary but most people reach a state of deep relaxation and a sense of inner peace. In later sessions, a guided imaginary journey may be offered. Time is set aside at the end of the session to talk about and integrate the experience.
Psychospiritual Healing
These sessions are based on Kripalu's The Wave Work with energy work included as needed. The combination lets you integrate your experience as you heal at your own pace and offers a balanced perspective of being.
The Wave Work (TM) is a psychospiritual process of experiencing and integrating all levels of being - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. It is conducted within an environment of great safety. In this process you are coached to follow your inner flow of sensations with awareness. You work with the body and breath rather than staying "in the head". Session work proceeds in numerous "waves" of experience/sensation, some large, some small, that integrate quickly (you "get it" in your body). Insights then follow (common in this work).
The work also allows pulling together and integrating pieces of past healing work that don't feel "done".
The work is offered from the perspective that there is an inner intelligence or wisdom deep within us. When followed, it can guide us towards wholeness. And by learning to follow our own guidance, we live our life more fully. The Wave Work itself is based on the deeper teachings of yoga.
In a session:
After spending a few minutes getting acquainted with the practitioner, you lie down on a massage table in a warm, comfortable room with your clothes on. Those comfortable with touch are supported with a gentle touch on the arm or shoulder. You let your awareness flow, reporting in a few words whenever it shifts and settles. The person coaching follows with you, supporting you with a word or two and occasionally helping you focus on your experience. This is a very inward experience for the person on the table.
Each session is a unique experience. There is room for emotion, physical sensation, thoughts, images, subtle/spiritual experience and deep silence. Frequently a person will move through several of these areas in a connected fashion in one session. Integration of the experience occurs throughout the session. Additional integration time is provided at the end. In general, the coach does not interpret your experience - the insight you gain in the session provides the interpretation.
60 or 90 minute sessions are available by appointment in Hinesburg.

Visit some of the Links for an overview of the spiritual healing tradition. Note that spiritual healing is an experience, just as spirituality is. It is our experience of finding our point of connection with all that exists - however that works for you. And finding the wholeness, love and compassion that lie within ourselves.

Spiritual Guidance - a possibility
I have completed a two year training program in offering spiritual guidance as of May, 2000. A guide is different than a teacher. A guide helps you reflect on where you are and gain clarity on where you are called to go on your spiritual journey. A guide does not teach you their own tradition. Typically you might meet with the person you have chosen for guidance 3 to 6 times a year. The process requires face to face meetings, at least initially.
If you live in northwestern Vermont and are interested in seeing how this might work, please contact me. This is something new for me so we will both explore it together. I also know of others in northwestern Vermont who have completed this training and may be open to serving as a guide.
