Transformers Point of View (POV) Guide

Point Of View or POV is essentially a story writing, story telling process. POV originated from CompuServe's FLIGHT SIM forum. According to the editor(s), who wrote the original POV help-file, "The story started as forum-messages and [grew] day by day. It features . . . lots of alter egos of Forum-members." POV is essentially like the common "fanfiction." However, in POV when an author posts a story, anyone can jump in, and continue it (see guidelines). For example, if you have an idea, you can send a feedback to the original author, or continue the story. POV stories are fun, and even suspenseful at times. The guidelines are very loose, and very easy to follow. As the original POV Guide states: "The guidelines are not intended to create an obstacle, but instead to 'guide' you" (duh!). I encourage anyone, who visit Transformers forums & newsgroups, or anyone involved in writing fanfics to help make it successful. Please save the following POV Guidelines to file for future reference.

THE POV GUIDELINES*

ARCHIVING GUIDELINES:
  1. Start the message subject with [POV] or <POV>[;] make it obvious.
  2. The person who started the thread keeps track of it . . . [s]tory order and everything. A good idea would also be to find a buddy or two who would agree to help you out . . .
  3. [D]iscussion amongst authors should be through mail, or on a SEPARATE thread. These things [can] get [very] cluttered.
  4. If a thread gets really large, a summary post would be a good idea.
WRITING GUIDELINES:
  1. Don't kill other people . . . Don't kill real people, it's not nice! [Don't kill original characters from cartoons or comics--for example, Optimus Prime, Megatron, and others alike.]
  2. Don't destroy someone else's creative work. Don't dismiss other writer's posts simply because it doesn't fit with how you thought the story would turn out. That's the fun with POV[,] no one person knows what will happen from message to message. Same goes for elaborate creations-[-]respect 'em.
  3. If a thread is getting out of control, try to recognize it and get to the conclusion. If you're thinking of posting, wait for a cue [from] the [original author(s)].
  4. When in doubt, ask. If you want to post but you're not sure how your idea may be received, post an e-mail to those currently carrying the story.
  5. [There are no timeline restrictions.]
  6. [If you don't like the ones you see, then start your own thread.]
  7. [Kill characters that you made up. If you were to kill characters that were created by someone else, please ask for their permission first.]
STANDARDIZED ENDING TAGS:

[To be continued . . .]
---Anyone can jump in with more story but no major plot twists. Minor plots or spinoffs okay[. This is pretty much the standard we use now.]

[To be continued . . . HELP]
---OPEN! Anyone can jump in and pick up [where the story ends]. Both major and minor plot twists okay[. This basically means, "I'm stuck, someone jump in and help me out."]

[To be continued . . . HOLD]
---This [author] has more story coming. Everyone should hold off . . .

[To be continued . . . over to xxxx]
---Only xxxx should reply to the plot line in this post.

[To be continued . . . FEEDBACK]
---Request for feedback (ideas or comments) on the plotline. For example, "should it continue[,] or what? Who should die? Who will win?" [Feedback via private e-mail or different thread posts.]

This guideline is based from the file "POV1.EXE" of FLIGHT SIM forum in Compuserve. I have edited the original guideline so that it would relate to the Transformers Universe.
