The TRANSFORMERS
TV Campaign Guide
Here's a short collection of facts to
know when organizing a grass roots effort in bringing back old TRANSFORMERS
series (1980's) to Television. Note: the following suggestions apply to local
TV stations; major network affiliates may be difficult to persuade.
- Decide what goal to achieve--short
and specific goals are best. Get some feedback from fans.
- Secure pledges from numerous number
of fans to support the grass roots effort.
- Plan the start date, including the
duration of the campaign.
- Write to the programming department
of the TV station--several times, if necessary.
- Send letters or petition through
mail. Send fax or e-mails. Be warned, however, e-mails can easily be ignored or
erased. Phone call is another good idea. Of course, don't harass the TV station's
personnel.
- Adding your name on petition makes
little or no difference to the campaign, without a phone number or e-mail. A valid
petition endorsement should include your name (signature is optional), return
address, or phone number on a petition form (paper or e-mail). This way, the TV
station can confirm that you actually exist, and that you're not a phantom name
on the list.
- The programming director must be
convinced that the potential viewers are numerous.
- The TV station must then answer
some questions--i.e., number of supporting advertisers, securing syndication rights,
number of viewers, air time, etc.. Remember, TRANSFORMERS is a syndicated
series. It is possible, despite your successful campaign, that the owners of the
syndicated series may decline to give rights to your local TV station or TV network.
- If all else fail, buy the videos!
It's the simpliest thing to do.
The above enumeration was
collected through several sources, several years ago. Unfortunately, I don't remember
the sources of these facts anymore. The guide is not a guarantee to a successful
campaign, nor will this author be responsible for failed efforts in your campaign.
