Horseshoe Pitching is Fun Again!
E
ver have moments in your life where you think nothing is going right and life has given you a bunch of disparities to deal with. Maybe your pitching or horseshoe club may be one of them. It was for me, but Horseshoe Pitching is FUN again! Here are some messages that have picked up my spirits.

Message to WSHPA President Ron Kohn:
Here's some good news about the WSHPA League Woody Cup event held July 12, 2007 on the SCSHC courts. (We changed it from a sanctioned league to just a WSHPA league event to get more participation.) And here are some facts I sent to Ringer Report Editor Mike Ardelean for a blurb: The Woody Cup event raised $383 for the WSHPA Junior Fund, $103 coming from 50-50 and $280 from participants. We will be sending a check of $383 to Marty, WSHPA treasurer, for placement in the WSHPA Junior Fund. One of our goals is to support and increase junior membership in the WSHPA. SCS had 15, Lake Orion 19, Lincoln Park/Romulus 11 and Taylor 11, which make 56 participants. Since I have been a member of the SCSHC (10th year) this was the largest event ever to be held on the SCSHC courts... with all courts being used. The results were SCS 52; Lincoln Park/Romulus 38; Lake Orion 30, and Taylor 24 points. John Thomachefski, Mike Ardelean, Gary Bramhill/Mark Wolffradt, and Guy Hall were captains for their clubs and kept things running smoothly. We hope Taylor or Lincoln Park/Romulus will host the event next year. Larry "Woody" Woods was very pleased and is once again excited about sponsoring this event. He is a member of the WSHPA and the founder of the Southeastern Michigan Horseshoe Charity Club, which in the last 25 years has raised nearly a third of a million dollars for different charities. One other note, we had an excellent turn out for our July 7-8 sanctioned tournaments. Steve Summerlin, WSHPA regional director, awarded us with a "Full" sanctioned court certificate. Our club members have worked very hard over the years and we will display the certificate with pride.

Message to John Hetzler,
Macomb Daily sports writer:

Thanks for the call today, John. We can use all the publicity we can get to promote the great sport of horseshoe pitching. Here's some more information that might be useful for you. This is in addition to the Woody Cup information that you already have. Thanks for all you do for promoting our sport.

HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT
HELD IN ST. CLAIR SHORES

Nearly 60 Pitchers attend

ST CLAIR SHORES - The St. Clair Shores Horseshoe Club held sanctioned tournaments July 7th and 8th at Kyte Monroe Park.

Nearly 60 horseshoe players lined up to play against some of the best pitchers in Michigan, 40 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.

Many former World Class and State Champions were at the event.

But mostly it was all about having a good time.

"Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet, pitch horseshoes. It's fun going to the tournaments and seeing new faces and old friends," said John Thomachefski President of the SCS Horseshoe Club.

This is the seventh year sanctioned horseshoe tournaments were held by the SCSHC. The next sanctioned tournament is scheduled for July 21st and 22nd. Everyone is invited to pitch in these tournaments. Contestants must be members of the Wolverine State Horseshoe Pitchers Association, or qualify on the day of the tournament. A $30 fee is charged for sanctioning and each tournament has a $10 entry fee.

People of all skill levels pitch in Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evening leagues at the park throughout the summer.

Message to all SCSC members:

A Macomb Daily sports reporter called Saturday and thanked me for sending him the Woody Cup information. He is sending a reporter/photographer to our courts on Tuesday evening for pictures. They will run a story before our next sanctioned tournament on July 21 and 22. Horseshoe pitching will indeed get some publicity out of this. Please wear your horseshoe-pitching shirt if you have one. We will try to keep all inappropriate clothing pictures from being taken. I suggest that each pitcher definitely place their "refreshments" in koozies. I am meeting with Woody Tuesday morning and he will have the Cup ready for me to take to the courts. I will bring it down Tuesday evening for pictures. I would like everyone who played in the Woody Cup to be available for individual or a group picture with the Cup. Otherwise the photographer will take random pictures of club members in action. Be ready to talk a good game as well play a good game this Tuesday evening. I would like to have all executive members attend if at all possible. Please pass on this message to any club member that you know.
