Author Don Keith has just completed a novel co-written with former submarine captain CDR George Wallace USN (ret). A good portion of the action takes place aboard the no-longer-commissioned attack nuclear submarine USS Spadefish (SSN 668).

Don has also had published his first non-fiction work, the "biography" of a rather unique World War II-era diesel submarine, the USS Archerfish (SS/AGSS 311). That book was completed with the significant research assistance and sage guidance of former Archerfish crewmember Ken Henry. Don's literary agent was also a crewmember aboard Archerfish in the 1950s.

USS Archerfish leaves San Francisco in May of 1952.

Listed below are a few Web links to sites that may be of interest to anyone who would like more information about submarines or the men who have volunteered for service aboard them.

These sites are devoted to specific diesel boats...the so-called "smoke boats"...similar to USS Archerfish.

Submarine Sailor.com, one of the leading sites dedicated to the many men who have served aboard U.S. submarines in war and peace. A great source of info and links to individual boat sites.

National organization for veterans of the Silent Service. Their creed in part says that the purpose of the organization is, "To perpetuate the memory of our shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country."

Take a virtual tour of a nuclear attack submarine here at the Web site for the PBS show "Nova."

Site dedicated to submarine veterans with good list of upcoming reunions and other vet activities.
