Info Page
Thank you visiting our page. I am Eric Yates, my mother Margaret and I have had English Mastiffs
since 1973 and the first liter was raised in 1976. We can not imaging living without Mastiffs. We show our
dogs, but not as aggressively as some. So it takes us a while to 'finish' our dogs.
We own and breed all colors of mastiff. All pups are graded as 'Full' or 'Limited'. these are the
AKC designations for whether or not the pup has breeding and show rights (or not). 'Full' is for the upper
1/4 to 1/3 of the litter. These are the pups with the heavier bones, bigger heads, and perfect or near
perfect markings. The 'Limited' pups are graded as such based on a lack of show conformation, not on some
type of physical defect.
We often are willing to place some of the better pups as 'Limited' if the owners do not want to breed
or show their pup. In this case the price will be less than 'Full', but more than a normal 'Limited' pup's
price. While this may not seem smart to some (less money), we feel that there are now too many people breeding
Mastiffs that do not have the knowledge or concern needed to ensure the future health and welfare of the
Mastiff as a whole. The best was to prevent this is to place less pups with 'Breeding' registrations!
For those interested we are more than willing to help those wanting to start their own 'line'. It is
not easy, so do not ask unless you are serious. Do not expect to make money, as it will all go back into food,
the Vet, tests, shows, food, toys, dog-beds, food, fence, a bigger Van, transmission for the Bigger Van, etc...
We x-ray our dogs hips using the PennHip system, elbows are also x-rayed. We CERF for the eyes, test
for normal thyroid, have heart exams, test for cystinuria, and will soon have all of our dogs PRA DNA cleared*.
*(none of our dogs are from the line(s) that carry it anyway)
We always breed to produce the best Mastiff that we can. A healthy, solid, and sound mastiff is always
our goal. We breed to produce the best pups possible. Sometimes this may mean breeding to a male that is not
ours even if inconvenient geographically. Sometimes it will be a male that we own. The next few years 2005->2007
we will be line-breeding many of our dogs 'in house', as we now have a diverse enough family. In 2007-2008 we
hope to be bringing 1-2 new pups back from the UK to diversify our 'family'.
All of our puppies have a thorough exam by our Veterinarian before they are 8 weeks, but we keep them
until 9-10 weeks before they leave. All pups leave with 'operating' instructions, a feeding plan, and enough food
a vitamins for a few days.
