Based on age on 1st September preceding the event, so remember that Junior
competitors progress to the next age group for any races under ARA rules
from 1st September onwards (in order to keep the same age group throughout
the academic year, rather than the calendar year). [Note that until
November 2005, SARA still
worked on 1st Sept of the calendar year preceding the event (see
old
SARA rules) and therefore changed age groups on New Year's Day, but now
(as for the ARA) use 1st Sept preceding the event to keep the age group the
same through the school year (see
new
SARA rules).]
For races from 1.9.2007 to 31.8.2008:

ARA rule 3-3-4, and FISA rule 23.
May compete as Under 23 until 31st December of the year in which the competitor
reaches the age of 22, hence for events in the year 2008 an Under 23 must
have been born on or after 1.1.1986.
