Tarcol Lodge

Tarcol Lodge is Rancho Naturalista's sister lodge which opened in the spring of 1993. It's located on the mouth of the Tárcoles River on the Pacific Coast, about 4 miles from Carara National Park (southwest of San José). One of the main attractions of Tarcol is its proximity to Carara Reserve.

The transitional forests of Carara are home to a large number of birds - Scarlet Macaws, Three-wattled bellbirds and Long-tailed, Orange-collared and Blue crowned manakins. Many mammals also call Carara home. Howler and White-throated capuchin monkeys, white-nosed coatis and the Collared Anteater are all regularly seen.

The lodge is small and rustic with rooms overlooking the river. Bathrooms are shared and have hot water. There is a fan in every room. Delicious meals are served featuring fresh seafood, tropical fruits, vegetables and exotic fruit drinks. A 3 day minimum stay is required if Tarcol Lodge provides the transportation. A stay of a week or more may be split between Tarcol Lodge and Rancho Naturalista, at the later's rates.
