Location & Size: Guanacaste Province, Pacific coast, 162 Ha. (terrestrial), 587 Ha. (maritime)
Characteristics: This refuge is a 200 meter stretch of beach between Punta India and the mouth of the Nosara River, including the town of Ostional. Ostional beach is famous for being one of the places where huge arribadas of turtles take place from July through November.
Fauna: Nesting site for olive ridley turtles, leatherback and the Pacific green turtle. Also, 102 bird species have been identified as well as ctenosaur lizards. Few crocodiles.
Marine life include: Seaweeds, sea urchins, starfish, sea anemones, Sally Lightfoot crabs, ghost and hermit crabs.
Flora: Mangrove swamp, deciduous forest (frangipani, cacti, coconut, royal palms, tea mangrove, etc.)
Importance of the refuge: One of the two most important nesting sites for the olive ridley, the other one is Nancite Beach in Santa Rosa National Park.
Visitor facilities: Camping permitted. No trails.
