Location & Size: Pacific Ocean, 15 Km off the coast from Corcovado National Park. The Reserve has: 200 Ha. (Terrestrial) and 2,700 Ha. (Maritime).
Characteristics: An island 40-50 million years old, site of a pre-Columbian cemetery.
Fauna: Birds: cattle egret, common black hawk, osprey, brown bobby, Northern phalarope.
Mammals: Four-eyed opossum, paca.
Reptiles: Boa constrictor, brown tree frog, transparent tree frog, lizards.
Marine fauna: Starfish, sea urchins, lobster, giant conch. Five coral platforms are found offshore.
Flora: Evergreen forest with species such as: locust, wild fig, cocoa, rubber tree, cow tree.
Importance of the reserve: Archeological importance: ceremonial/burial site with presence of perfectly round stone spheres. Also protection to the coral reefs, where 15 species have been identified.
Visitor facilities: Ranger station and trails. Camping allowed.
