Location & Size: Limón Province in the foothills of the Talamanca Mountain Range, S.W. of Estrella Valley and 45 Km from Limón port. The reserve has: 9, 154 Ha.
Characteristics: Criss-crossed by countless rocky rivers with rapids and waterfalls.
Fauna: 115,400 species of birds: Montezuma oropendola, vulture, chizo parrot, slatey-tailed trogon and hummingbirds.
Mammals: Three-toed sloth, silky anteater, four-eyed opossum, Neotropical river otter, tayra, jaguar, tiger cat, tapir, red brocket deer, collared peccary, howler and white-faced monkeys. Frogs and toads are abundant.
Flora: Evergreen forest with species such as: crabwood, wild tamarind, Santa María, silk cotton tree, hura, guayabo de monte. Most of the trees have mosses, liverworts, lichens, orchids, bromeliads and other epiphytic plants. Tree ferns are abundant.
Importance of the reserve: Preserve the forest for the continued health of the watershed.
