Golfito National Wildlife Refuge

Location & Size: Puntarenas Province, Osa Peninsula. The refuge has: 1,309 Ha.

Characteristics: Area of rugged terrain and high rainfall.

Fauna: Mammals: collared peccary, paca, raccoon and coatimundi. Birding is good.

Flora: Evergreen forest with species such as: yellow saman, silk cotton tree, copal, manwood, bully tree, butternut tree, purple tree, cow tree, cycads, heliconias, etc.

Importance of the refuge: Preserve the forest to protect the water supply for the city of Golfito.

Visitor facilities: Park headquarters and trails.
