Campanario Biological Reserve and
Research Station
The Reserve is in the Pacific lowlands
on the Osa Peninsula of southwest Costa Rica. Campanario has an
800 meter coastline bordering on the Pacific Ocean and is approximately
two kilometers north of the San Pedrillo Ranger Station on the
Corcovado National Park. The closest permanent settlement is Sierpe,
in the Province of Puntarenas, a two-hour boat ride to the northeast
of Campanario.
Completed for scientists, students, visitors and students groups
is a rustic field station house close to the beach with two dormitories
with bunk beds, (These two large men's and women's dormitories
have space for up to 12 visitors), an ample kitchen, dining room,
showers and toilets, and laundry area. Bedding and towels are
provided weekly. Accommodations are rustic, but comfortable, clean
and dry. The water is potable; cooking is over a propane stove
and light in the evenings is by candlelight or lantern.
