Bolaños Island National Wildlife Refuge

Conservation area: Osa

Location & Size: Guanacaste Province, located 1.5 Km off the coast of Punta Descartes. The refuge has 25 hectares

Characteristics: Oval-shapped rocky mount 81 mts. above sea level

Fauna: Seabirds, lizards, snails, clams and a great variety of marine life.

Flora: Thick, deciduous thickets (paira, frangipani, crown fig and alfaje)

Importance of the refuge: Conservation of nesting sites for seabirds (brown pelicans, frigate birds and American oyster-catcher)

Services for visitors: For current status concerning access and hiring a boat, visitors need to contact the Santa Rosa National Park office.
