U.S. Presidents on Stamps
By David Cunningham
George Washington has appeared on more stamps than anyone else in history, but many people do not realize that every deceased President of the United States has had his place in the sun. Here we show the very first regular issue stamp showing George Washington, issued in 1847.

The Post Office Department (now known as the USPS) has issued two comprehensive sets of "Presidential" stamps. The first, back in 1938, and commonly called the "Prexies," consists of engravings of the Presidents from Washington to Coolidge, with the early Presidents all having a "Face Value" (Postage Value) the same as the order of their Presidency. In 1986, a series of sheetlets, each with nine stamps, was issued by the USPS, and ©USPS. These stamps show a "woodcut" of each President up to Lyndon Johnson. More recently, the USPS issued (©USPS) a Richard Nixon stamp.

Now you can look at many of these stamps by choosing them here. We may have a comment or two about the Presidents, but mainly we will let the images speak for themselves.
