Lyndon B. Johnson 1963 - 1969

Lyndon Johnson gave up great power in the Senate to run for Vice President -- and the death of John Kennedy rescued him from that fate. His "Great Society" series of programs competed with funding for the Vietnam War, causing substantial economic and political problems.
