In the map, you see rectangle areas numbered from 1 to 9. Those are the nine sections. Each number is centered on intersections of two dashed lines (x-, y- axis) running across the map in relation to the shape of Manhattan island. You can choose to stick with points of intersection, or the dashed lines (x- y- axis), or the area covered by each zone. In other words, you can use the map and come up with your own way of reading it. It is your personal mapping of this city, but be as rational as possible. (For example, you can go to those places and pick up stuff from the street, but don’t get arrested, killed, or drowned.) Each of nine sections may have subdivisions. 9 sections will form a layer. The method of mapping, scanning or sampling is up to the individual artist. Be aware that when we put layers back together we may not necessarily place these sections in the original sequence. In other words, if dance is executing the #3 section, Light, Costume, Sound may not all be executing the same section. The method of determining the order will be decided by the time we perform. We may simply draw cards. If I come up with a better system, I will let you know.
