There are sixteen golf courses in the Western Loire open all year round to visitors, ranging from typical Scottish links on the Atlantique coast, a village-like atmosphere at Anjou Golf and Country Club, the urban courses around Nantes or the grounds of a picturesque chateau at La Bretesche. They all offer a professional welcome with excellent golfing on relatively quiet courses at very reasonable prices.

The Golf Courses

Anjou Golf & Country Club

12 miles (20km) north of Angers provides a technical course of 18 holes plus a 6-hole short course designed by Frederick Hawtree offering all year- round- play for golfers of all levels. Bar, restaurent, proshop and driving range open every day. Situated near the chateaux of "Plessis-Bourre" and "Plessis-Mace" provides an opportunity for quality golf together with sight-seeing for those who choose not to play.

Golf d'Avrille

Near Angers, set in the grounds of a château the course is 6730 yards par 71, alternately flat and hilly including 6 water hazards and laid out in an arboretum including more than 75 varities of maple tree ! There is also a 9 hole compact course, driving range and practice chipping area. Lieing in the valley of the "Maine", provides an ideal opportunity to taste the excellent local wines and visit the nearby castle of the historic town of Angers.

Golf de l'Epinay

A 6370 yard course on a beautiful 160 acre estate, designed by Martin Hawtree around a château with large undulating greens, spacious tees and several ponds, streams and small rivers to negotiate. A covered driving range and 3 hole course enables all levels of players to enjoy this picturesque setting. Situated near Nantes, the "capital" of the Western Loire in the heart of the famous "muscadet" vineyards.

Golf de l'Lle d'Or

In the middle of the Loire river, this island course includes a 18 hole 6898 yards-par 72, and a 9 hole 1334 yards-par 27, built by Michel Gayon one of the best French golf designers. Open all year, the clubhouse offers traditional French food set in the middle of one of the nicest French valleys. Approached through and surrounded by vineyards, the other attractions of this setting are all too obvious !

Golf de Savenay

This is a modern course, 6990 yards par 73, winding around lakes, valleys and magnificent woods situated at the Loire estuary between Nantes and St.Nazaire. Nearby, the "Grande Briere National Park" an ornothologists paradise or the international beach resort at La Baule might lure you away briefly from the course !
