The Reno Arch
The 1926 Reno Arch was not the first but probably the most remembered, being the backdrop for many old movies where the characters "go to Reno" (get a diviorce). This arch was originally erected to celebrate the completion of the Lincoln Highway and carried the words "Reno Transcontinental Highway Exposition June 25-August 1". This was removed and on June 25th, 1929 the famous "Biggest Little City in the World Slogan" was first lit. In 1935 the slogan was removed and a new neon sign with just Reno was attached, but removing the famous slogan created a furor, and soon a new neon sign with the slogan was attached to the same arch structure in 1935. That arch and sign now spans Lake street in front of the Automobile museum.
A 1929 Packard Club Sedan passes under Reno's famous arch shortly after the "Biggest Little City in the World" slogan was turned on in 1929.
