Find out where the Cayman Islands Are....

GOVERNMENT
The Cayman Islands are a British Crown Colony. This means that they are under the jurisdiction of Great Britain with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as monarch. A governor is appointed by Her Majesty to oversee the islands. Up until 1964 the islands were ruled through Jamaica. Then, with the emergence of Jamaica's independence, the islands were ruled directly from Great Britain. Her Majesty appoints a Governor to oversee the government of the islands. The highest position held by a Caymanian is Chief Secretary. Each district within the islands is represented by a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Elections are held every four years to elect MLAs. The MLAs then chose several representatives to have a seat on the Executive Council (ExCo), which is the supreme section of the Legislative Branch. The Governor is the head of ExCo, and holds the power of the veto.
