CAMPING LED TRIPS AND SPECIALS FOR 2001
LED TRIPS
On all our other trips once you leave our base you are free of us unless you need help. On the led trips we get to come too! Apart from our sparkling company you also get the benefit of our nose for restaurants, unique knowledge of sub-10ff bottles of wine, scintillating camp-stove recipes and of course the unique camaraderie of other cyclists trying to out-eat each other... On these trips you’ll find men and women, couples and singles, of all ages and from wildly different backgrounds. Yet, without exception, the group soon gels and becomes a group of like-minded friends ‘lost in France’. Because of the nature of these groups the ‘route’ is very flexible, often a poster advertising a fete, or the prospect of another stunning day at the beach, will make us change our plans. These trips are strictly limited to fourteen people (except the Family tour) so don’t leave booking to late. For us these trips are the high point of the season, and are the ones that bring people back year after year, so if you want to join this select band don’t leave it too late. Lastly although the mileage's are not great it is very important that you are capable of them as one ‘non-cyclist’ amongst the group will greatly limit our flexibility.
WHITSUN FAMILY TOUR - 25th May to 1st June.
This is the week where we, with our three small children, lead a gentle tour in central Brittany. The distances are easy, the roads and cyclepaths quiet and safe and the campsites perfect for families. Entry requirements for the trip are at least one child under 7 and a sense of humour. The trip will be based on a fairly short mileage and use several campsites, some with swimming and playgrounds, others just small and quiet, but all the kind of places our children, and I hope yours, will love. Our kids look forward to this trip a great deal, I hope yours will too.
JUNE LED TRIP - 8th to 15th June.
If all goes to plan this will follow the ‘Binic and Back’ route. This means that mileage will be a maximm of 23 miles per day and terrain moderate so though this is not for absolute beginners it will be the easiest June tour for some while...
SEPTEMBER TRIP TO THE MAYENNE - 7th to 21st September
The usual ‘end of season’ adventure. Also the usual vague freewheeling route. This will start and finish at our base in Gouarec and take us East as far as the Mayenne then down and back via the Loire Atlantique. This is all unspoilt and untouristy countryside - quiet rural and yet with plenty of sites to visit, little market towns, Chateaux the Loire would die for, the Nantes Brest Canal etc. As always I consider the trip to be a failure if anyone loses weight during the week... With a mileage of 30+ per day and sometimes hilly terrain this is not for beginners and cyclists should be capable of 50 miles if pressed. For this trip special conditions apply so you need to contact us before booking. Cost will be £340 including ferry transfers.
'SPECIALS'
We do run special led trips where we come too (see above), but unfortunately these have to be run at the beginning and the end of the season and are generally oversubscribed. Because of this we are allocating certain weeks of the high season to special group tours where we will not come. These weeks will also run our normal range of tours but if you choose the ‘special’ you will be assured of company from like-minded cyclists on the same route, either on camping or hotel tours.
JUNE "WOMEN ONLY" TRIP - 15th to 22nd June
Want to have conversations that don't include football and cars? This is for you. This trip is attracting several regulars each year so the 14 places are already filling up. It'll follow the 'Two Chateaux' route which is pretty easy and has the best shopping/eating opportunities (so Kate tells me...).
GROUP WEEK 1/ - Code ‘1Group’ Saturday 17th to 24th August following the ‘Carnac or Bust route’. If you are going to come on your own (husband won’t come, want to escape the kids, girlfriend hates cycling etc) or are a couple/group who want more than your own company then if you choose this week you will have the company of others in the same boat.
GROUP WEEK 2/ - Code '2Group' Saturday 24th to 31st August following the 'To the Ilse de Brehat' route. As above and gives the possibility of combining the two to give a fortnight of fun...
FAMILY WEEK - Code ‘1Family’ Saturday 25th August to 1st Sept following the ‘Easy Rider’ route. As our regular ‘family tour’ is always overbooked this is a second chance to have your kids join in with others. Without exception this means the kids go off to play together and leave parents alone to eat and drink with other sufferers;-)
DISCLAIMER!
Only you can judge how fit you are. Please don’t assume a level of fitness when you haven’t taken any exercise for years - try a few rides at the maximum distance before you come. Remember that if in doubt choose an easy route. Please note the distances, don’t book a 30+ mile per day route if you don’t normally ride a bike, or an easy route if you’ll get bored... As a guide most beginners average around 8 mph and more experienced up to 12 mph. Thus a 25 mile ride will take around 3 hours. It’s also worth bearing in mind that if you choose a route at the limit of your ability you’ll have nothing in reserve if you get lost! On the other hand regular cyclists, even only a few miles a day, should have no problem with any of the routes. If you want harder cycling then by combining routes we can give you up to 80 miles a day.
