News and the new Unofficial Breton Bikes family site!!!

Well with the September Led over the 2001 season is now closed - it's been our busiest season ever. We are now taking bookings for 2002, the prices will remain unchanged and all current routes will be available. We are also now able to accept payment in US Dollars and Euros as well as Sterling.

Our first trip this year - the Whitsun Family Trip - was without question as good as it gets. One of the parents rushed home and put up a website on the tour which you can find at Dave Preston's page which is a delightful read with many contributors already, though it inevitably concentrates on Family tours. However Dave is hoping to build it into a more wide ranging site. The idea is that after your holiday you can send articles, photos, complaints (as if...), to Dave and he will put them up on the site. My hope is that it will become an independent resource site for people thinking of coming, where they can find out what sort of holidays people have, and email people with similar groups to themselves to ask for advice. My only comment at present is that because it was started due to the family trip it does give the impression that everyone who comes has lots of children which is far from the truth! On that subject the Children’s Led Trip will be in the traditional Whitsun week -25th May. The following week has been made the school bank holiday week in Britain, so that too will have several families on it and for those wanting to travel as a group we will put a special route together. In 2001 we also had a group who came and had a wonderful time and then wrote about it. If you want to see a 'diary' of the travails of a Breton Bikes holiday then here it is

Once again we've had a record season with not a single week where we had less than 20 people and most nearer 40. So here I'd just like to thank all the people who came and helped make it such a success, especially those on the various led trips who were such marvellous company. I'd also like to thank the customers from far abroad - Australia, USA, Kenya, China, Canada, S Africa etc for their trust in sending money into the "wild blue yonder" on the strength of a web site! We've now worked out a much more secure way of doing this for those coming from outside Europe - see the "Booking" page for details.

Background

Breton Bikes has been in operation since 1989, and during the last twelve seasons has offered unique cycling holidays in France. Our base is in the middle of Brittany, the bit of France that sticks out west into the Atlantic Ocean. Kate and I used to spend all our holidays bicycle touring in France, and we couldn't help thinking that there was a whole world of people out there who would love to do the same thing. So Breton Bikes was born, and now we are the only company in France or anywhere else for that matter, offering real cycle camping holidays. We are also one of the few English speaking companies that is actually based in France, we live here and love every minute of it. As we have expanded we have also added Hotel based holidays, but we have remained true to our original idea of providing an experience of real bicycle touring in France. We can provide a holiday to satisfy all ages and abilities, children are especially welcome on our family vacations and this year 20% of our bookings are for families. For all our holidays we supply everything you need, even for camping, all you need to bring is yourselves. Recently old customers have told us that we should emphasise how good the bikes are, so if in doubt have a look at our page on the bikes and equipment supplied. We must be doing something right because on average around 30% of our bookings come from people coming on their second, or even tenth bike tour! See what these converts have to say... We've also been widely featured on TV, radio, cycling mags and newspapers. If you fancy a bit of an adventure then read on...
