MarC | Air popped popcorn is another great snack -
| you get <100 calories out of 3 cups of
| popped popcorn. Of course there's always the
| old standbies: raw veggies like carrots and
| celery. To add to the mood try making a dip
| based on low fat or fat free yogurt instead
| of sour cream. Sugar free jello qualifies as
| a free snack - you can even whip it into a
| foam that will set and give you that
| "topping" look - mix flavors/colors to give
| it that festive look. Lately I have been
| impressed with the weight watchers mock ice
| cream treats, like their Chocolate Mousse
| and Orange delight bars. Two of these are
| only worth 70 calories - the equivalent of a
| cup of skim milk or a bread exchange. What
| are your ideas?
| ....

Risa | Water also purges your system of bad stuff
| Barb
Barb | I have been eating bread sticks
Risa | GA Barb
MarC | back
Risa | Have you been counting how many you eat?
Barb | I find they are tasty and has the crunch I
| want
Judy | We don't drink enough water,
Barb | I eat 4 at a total of 60 calories.
Risa | Good.... that counts as a bread exchange, I
| believe
Valerie | The more I get, the more I want. The popcorn
| does work reasonably well for me --
| especially if it's doctored
| up with some cayenne and/or garlic powder
MarC | close enough - a bread is official 75 calories
Risa | Water, or diet iced tea or soft drinks don't
| have any
| exchange values, tho, and are good stopgap
| measures.

MarC | GA - curt
Curt | I 've found that something hot to drink esp
| late at night helps curb the hunger
MarC | my mother's favorite suggestion
Curt | I usually have hot chocolate
MarC | a nice hot c\up of tea
Curt | it works!!
MarC | is my favorite - herbal nowadays
Risa | Yes, herbal teas don't have caffeine either
Barb | !
Judy | I like to make my own ice tea, using herbal
| teas especially in the summer. No Sugar etc
MarC | GA barb
Barb | I also like graham crackers. I've found that
| one whole
| cracker is 60 calories.
| It makes me feel like I'm eating a cookie or
| something
| "forbidden"
MarC | he he he
Valerie | !
MarC | yes - I guess we need to feel we've...
| gotten away with something
Barb | By the way, a whole cracker is the four
| little perforated
| square that make up the whole one.
MarC | GA valerie
Valerie | Herbal teas have other advantages, according
| to the alternative medicine folks.
MarC | yes - they are supposed to help digestion...
Valerie | They claim that items such as cinnamon,
| fenugreek, and some others help stabilize
| blood sugars.
MarC | and some are also supposed to help you sleep
| or relax
| Something else in the cracker department...
Valerie | At any rate, they taste good, and I don't
| feel any need to sweeten them.
MarC | are the Wasa scandinavian breads...
| they now have fat free versions that are 45
| calories a slice...
| and only have 40mg of sodium...much tastier
| tahn...
Barb | ?
Risa | !
MarC | rice cakes or fat free slat free taco chips
| GA barb, risa next
Barb | How large is a slice?
MarC | about 2 by 6 inches??
Barb | Thanks
MarC | they are great for putting veggie spead
| or salsa on - or fat free cheese

Risa | Valerie had mentioned before that she had
| trouble
| stopping at a small quantity
| I have the same problem. Once I start to
| snack, it's hard
| for me to control myself
MarC | a severe problem here!!!
Barb | !
MarC | I used to be better - lately I'm a basket
| case...
| open one of those bags of mini-pretzels and
| its not 17 later...
| its more like 170!
| barb next
Barb | Does getting the snack out, putting away the
| container
| and then eating the snack help or sound like
| a good idea?
MarC | Its a great idea...
| put it on a plat - make it a full up...
| sit down affair with a beverage...
Risa | yes, that sounds like a good idea.
| put the damn thing away!
MarC | and then lock the cabinet!!!

Valerie | Sometimes, its easier not to start -- but
| what really drives me nuts is watching my
| husband who can eat without
| restraint, or negative consequences...aaargh!
Judy | Don't buy the crackers/pretzels, don't keep
| them in the house, buy only when kids having
| friends over.
MarC | we're hoping to have a lecture here soon...
Risa | what drives me nuts is myhusband, who
| actually lsot 60
| lbs. 2 years ago and has the restraint and
| discipline to
| keep it off and stay away from foods he likes
MarC | where we will have a psychologist talk about
| eating...
| disorders and cravings...
Curt | I've found the ONLY way to be in control is
| to go to bed, exercise, or leave the room. I
| tend to rationalize and say one or two more
| won't hurt me!
