- Article 90 the introduction, The description and purpose of the
code,the overall approach. Article 90-3 gives the code arrangement
stating that the code is divided into the introduction and 9 chapters.
Chapter 1,2,3, and 4 apply generally; Chapters 5,6, and 7 apply to
special occupancies, equipment or other special conditions, these
chapters supplement or modify the general rules of chapters 1,2,3,
and 4. Chapter 8 covers communications systerms and is independant
of the other chapters except where they are specifically referenced.
Chapter 9 consists of tables and examples.
Chapter 1 includes Article 100 and 110.
- Article 100 covers definitions essential to the proper application
of the code.
- Part A contains definitions intended to apply wherever the
terms are used.
- Part B contains definitions applicable only to the parts of the
articles covering specifically installations and equipment operating
at over 600 volts, nominal.
- Article 110 contains requirements for electrical installations.
Covering such things as splicing, working space and interrupter ratings.
- Article 110-12 states that Electric equipment shall be installed in
a neat and workmanlike manner.
Chapter 2 covers wiring design and protection Articles 200 thru 280.
- Article 210 covers Branch circuits.
- Part A General Provisions.
- Part B Branch-circuit ratings.
- Part C Required Outlets.
- Article 220 covers Branch-Circuit and Feeder Calculations Parts
A,B,C, and D.
- Article 230 covers Services, Parts A thru H.
- Article 240 covers Overcurrent Protection, Parts A thru H.

Covers Cable trays, conduits and conductors for general wiring.
- Article 305 covers Temporary Wiring.
- Article 310 covers conductors for general wiring.

Chapter 4 Equipment for General use, Articles 400 thru 480 ,
Fixtures, Cords, Appliances, Air-conditioning, Generators and such.
- Article 422 covers Appliances.
- Article 430 covers Motors and motor circuits.
- Article 440 covers Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration equipment.
- Article 445 covers Generators.
- Article 450 covers Transformers and Vaults.
- Chapter 5 covers special occupancies, Articles 500 thru 555,
such as Hazardous Locations Class I, II, and III Locations, also
Theaters, Nursing Homes, Hospitals and Mobile Homes and Parks.
- Chapter 6 covers special equipment such as Signs, Welders, Sound
recording and Electronic Computer equipment. Articles 600 thru 690,
- Chapter 7 covers special conditions such as Emergency Systems,
Standby equipment and circuits and equipment operating at less than
50 volts. Articles 700 thru 780.
- Chapter 8 covers Communication Systems and Circuits such as Radio
and Television Equipment. Articles 800 thru 820.
- Chapter 9 covers Tables and Examples such as Number of conductors
in trade sizes of conduit, dimensions of wire and conduit.
