In May 1996, I was appointed to the Smart Valley Board of Directors. I served on the Board from 1996 to the close of Smart Valley in November 1998. Smart Valley was reestablished in 2003 and I served on that Board of Directors as well until Smart Valley was closed in March 2008.
After Smart Valley closed its doors, the majority of its remaining funds were given to the Center for Innovation in Education (CIE) and GreatSchools.Net programs. I am now on the Advisory Board for the Center for Innovation which is dedicated to helping educators in Silicon Valley integrate the technology from Net Day, Challenge 2000 and Smart Valley with classroom training. Sony and Philips, the inventors of the Compact Disc (CD) have come up with a new generation music disc. The Super Audio CD (SACD) is a music format offering high quality Stereo and in some cases Multichannel music on a single layer disc. To preserve compatibility with current Compact Disc players, the format also offers the option of adding a CD layer to the Super Audio layer to create a hybrid disc that can be played on both CD players and SACD players. With the exception of Sony Music SACD releases, most of the several hundred SACD discs now on the market are hybrid SACD discs.
Multichannel SACD discs are now available through local stores including Tower Records, Best Buy and Circuit City as well as several key web outlets including Acoustic Sounds, Elusive Disc and Music Direct as well as Super Audio CD Shop (Austria) and Hmv.com Japan.
