Hope from the ruins

In the fall of 1998, Hurricane Mitch hit Central America and left thousands dead. It was the second most deadly storm in the Western Hemisphere. The hardest hit country, by far, was Honduras.

I traveled to Honduras in March of 1999, 6 months after Mitch. I went to tell two stories. One was what the Hondurans have done in that half a year to rebuild their lives and the other was on a team of area nurses that went to help. These four ladies would have gone to Honduras anyways, it just happened to coincide with the six month anniversary.

I have divided the stories into three parts, the first two being the actual stories I wrote and the third being the photos I made. The first link takes you to the story on the Hurricane rebuilding effort. The second link is for the story on the local ladies and their medical mission. The third link is for the photos I shot of the medical mission and the local ladies in action. I will be adding some rebuilding photos later, I don't have them scanned in yet.

I hope you can get an idea of what happened down there and how far some people are willing to go to help others in need. Enjoy.
