Our Own Postage Stamp
On February 18th, 1999, the U.S. Postal Service commemorated our band by issuing The Big Band Sound stamp. Perhaps they didn't intentionally intend to use the name of our band on this stamp, but we are honored none the less. Of all the possible color choices, could it be just a coincidence that they chose our same attire of blue blazers and red ties? The Big Band Sound stamp is a part of the Celebrate The Century series where each decade of the 20th Century was captured with a sheet of 15 stamps, each stamp remembering an important event of that decade. The Big Band Sound stamp is part of the sheet for the 1940s decade, which was issued on February 18th, 1999 at Dobbins Air Force Base in Georgia.
