I publish my machine knitting designs under the name Artika Designs and focus on unusual and innovative fabric designs and garment patterns for machine knitters, (as well as charts for handknitters and stitchers). I ship design books and patterns to machine knitters all over the world.
Need a grid for a special design?
I can produce a grid for a design of your own, or any image that is NOT COPYRIGHTED. Perhaps you want a grid for a picture of your house, or a club logo or something general like a tractor, say. My rates are by the hour and designs usually work out very affordable. The fewer the colours and the less detailed the design the quicker I can do the grid. Contact me on Artika@compuserve.com.
please note: I will not produce grids for copyrighted images such as Mickey Mouse, Rupert Bear, etc. unless you have permission from the copyright owner, nor am I willing to do grids of other people's designs you have seen on internet pages without their written permission!).
Punchcard design collections
All of my stitchpattern design collections can be knitted on a basic punchcard machine using ordinary singlebed fairisle with only 2 colours in a row, and most collections include a 24 stitch and a 40 stitch version of each design. I try to create an impression of depth that is unusual in domestic knitted fabrics, but as a fairly lazy knitter myself, I make sure that they are easy to knit, colour changes all on one side of the bed, and in one feeder only, with no troublesome blank rows!
Here is a summary of the stitchpattern collections: Go to new site (for full descriptions, pictures etc go to Machine Knitting Catalogue)
Garment patterns
Alongside the range of fabric design booklets I have produced a range of stylish garment patterns which I think are some of the most interesting around. Many are very easy to knit without the need for a ribber, and there are some designs for the larger figure too - some garments go up to size 18 and beyond. If you read machine knitting magazines in the UK, U.S. and Canada you will see editorials about the latest books and patterns from time to time.
Artika has registered copyright in its designs in the U.S. and the designs are protected against illegal copying by international treaties.
