Bergslagens Beagleclub is a section of The Swedish Beagleclub. The Swedish Beagleclub has 16 sections covering different areas of Sweden. Bergslagens Beagleclub was founded 1983 and most of the members are located in the middle of Sweden, in an area called Bergslagen.

Our aim is to create the best possible conditions for the Beagle, for the Owner and for the Breeder. This is done by stimulating the interest for breeding of healthy Beagles, both mental and physical. The most important point is to have good dogs for hunting, but also dogs which are exterior of high class.

In Sweden and in the other Scandinavian countries the Beagle are used for hunting of Hare, Roe-deer and Fox. Most of our Beagles today are extremely good for hunting of hare. The number of Beagles in Sweden are 4000 - 6000. Number of puppies every year are 400 - 600.

Every year we arrange one Dog Show, normaly last week of May. This year it will be the 1:st of June. We also arrange a so called Hunting test every year, normaly last week of November.

Everyone knows what a dog show is, but maybe a lot of people do not know what hunting test is. The hunting test is a test to find out how good the dog is as a hunting dog. The test is executed as a normal hunting, except that no shooting is allowed and the dogs behaviour will be observed by a referee. The allowed animals are Hare,Roedeer and Fox. The length of the hunting day shall be 7 hours. For every drive the dog have 180 minutes, from the moment he has found the animal, at his disposal. There are three prizes to win:

The designation of the Prize is for example 1:a Hare, 1:a Rå and 1:a Räv. One always point out the type of animal. Hare is the swedish word for Hare, Rå is the Swedish word for Roedeer and Räv is the Swedish word for fox.

There are more to be said about the hunting test but for the moment I think this can be enough just to give you some idea what it is all about.

There are two types of Champions. We have Hunting Champion(SJCh), S stands for Swedish and J for hunting(in Swedish =Jakt) and Dog Show Champion(UCh) U stands for Show(in Swedish=Utställning).

To become a Hunting Champion one need to have three 1:a Prize and at least one of them must be 1:a Hare. To become an UCh one must also be a Hunting Champion.
