Shrink Toolbars in Netscape Communicator, or click on Fullscreen in Internet Explorer and click on Fullscreen a second time when you want to finish.

This is a typical frame from program WPD1.BAS. In the centre is a potential hill. When an electron passes through this hill, half of it is transmitted and half reflected. It is then captured by one, and only one, of the potential wells at left and right. Our aim is to produce a computer simulation which can show this.

The picture shown above is 560x420 pixels in size, The small version of it is 214x160 pixels. The expansion factor is about 2.618, or the square of the golden ratio.

The picture was produced on an EGA screen, but you are probably looking at it with VGA. EGA is essential because it has a frame buffer which is not available in VGA if the program is written in QBasic.
