- I run an Animal Nutrition and Agricultural Consultancy and also provide a recruitment service to the agricultural industry.
Animal Production
The continuing development of livestock production systems as specialised units, emphasises the importance of specialist advice and technical information required by such units to enable them to maximise animal performance at minimum input cost.
Since feed represents such a large proportion of the input costs on livestock units, it is vital that the quality and specification of the diet is correct to ensure that animals, bred for their high performance potential, actually achieve or exceed the targets expected of them.

- Our consultancy service is designed to assist with all aspects of livestock production, nutrition and management. Keeping you up to date is also an important part of our service and this is achieved through regular attendance at major conferences, seminars and events, both in Ireland and in the United Kingdom. Access to the complete range of agricultural literature is also available through the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science Library, Queen's University Belfast.

Animal Nutrition Consultancy
Here are some of the areas where we have been able to assist others.
- Selection, evaluation and quality control of raw materials. Laboratory services are available, if necessary.
- Advice an all aspects of mineral nutrition, including mineral and vitamin supplements and free access minerals.
- Feed formulation service (portable computer and printer), including advice and formulations for farms using complete diet feeders (TMR).
Agricultural Consultancy
- Staff training to improve the background knowledge of your employees, enabling them to provide your clients with the specialist service they require.
- Independent product testing and on-farm trials to provide proof of efficacy or information for advertising purposes. Supervision of data collection and ensuring that the procedures laid down in the protocol are followed correctly.
- Preparation of promotional literature (brochures, media reports and photographs etc).
- Legislation governing the manufacture of animal feedingstuffs continues to tighten. Advice on how to comply with the regulations, together with product labelling requirements, is available.
- Providing a speaker(s) for farmer's meetings to discuss aspects of animal nutrition, forage quality and utilization, feeding and management.
- Advice on resolving on-farm disputes and claims, including the preparation of reports for litigation purposes and providing the legal profession with expert opinion, covering a wide range of agricultural problems. As a trained Mediator, Dr. McIlmoyle can also provide mediation as a cheaper alternative to litigation for dispute reolution.

Dr. W. Alan McIlmoyle - a short C V
After graduating with an Honours degree in Agriculture from Queen's University, Belfast, Alan McIlmoyle was awarded a Ph.D. degree for work conducted at the Agricultural Research Institute, Hillsborough.
He subsequently joined the research staff at the Institute - a joint appointment which included a Lectureship in the Faculty of Agriculture at Queen's University Belfast. During his period at the Institute, Dr. McIlmoyle published numerous research papers, and presented papers at several International meetings.
Following a period with the Northern Ireland Agricultural Trust working on the commercial development of new techniques, Dr. McIlmoyle joined a multi-national animal nutrition company as Senior Nutritionist, providing a technical service on a wide range of products which were sold into the animal feed livestock industry throughout Ireland.
After spending seven years as General Manager for the Company in Ireland, Dr. McIlmoyle established his own Animal Nutrition, Agricultural Consultancy and Agricultural Recruitment company in 1989.
Since 1989, the Company has serviced a wide range of clients in Ireland, the UK and Internationally, including countries in the former Eastern Bloc.
As a Member of the British Institute of Agricultural Consultants, Dr. McIlmoyle has access to a network of specialists and experts covering all aspects of agricultural and horticultural production.
