11th Scottish Wings and Wheels Extravaganza
The RAF Hercules C-130, which delivered the Falcons to our show and did a great flypast
The Falcons show was also 'on the button', excellent display and control of the chutes, and all landed in the DZ to take the salute as their C-130 passed overhead! Montrose in the left distance, you can just see the Falcons smoke. In the middle distance Upper Dysart, site of the 1913 airfield.
The C-130 heads for the DZ (just under the boom) for its low pass . . .
. . . and it's on its way back to Edinburgh to pick up the Falcons and ground crew,
the old airfield perimeter track standing out in the background.
(Thanks to Neil Werninck for the C-130 pics, what a ride!)
This year’s event took place on Saturday and Sunday, 25th and 26th July, at Broomfield, Montrose, Angus, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of RAF Montrose and the 60th anniversary of the first Spitfire squadron in the RAF. Spitfire squadrons at RAF Montrose during the last war included 602 City of Glasgow and 603 City of Edinburgh. Attractions included Vintage Vehicle Rally, Custom & Kit, Club Rallies and Events, Moped Duration Event, Craft Tent, Autojumble, Funfair, Stalls, Hornby Models, Large Scale Flying Model Aircraft, Brechin Castle Centre Model Boat Club, Static Displays, etc.
The RAF Bulldog display aircraft, which performed each day at our event

Guest of honour on the Sunday of the event was Bill Reid VC, who took the salute from the RAF Falcons and drew the annual raffle. Our other guest who flew in with the Falcons was SOPWITH

Highlight of the show was the RAF Spitfire display, this year's aircraft being a Mk19
which was one of the best Spitfire displays we have ever seen, low and close in to the display area, phew!!!!, to see and hear it over the old aerodrome again, indescribable! All the RAF events were totally professional and they are to be congratulated on the way they displayed.
