Subject: Happy Birthday
Hey All,
Given the inspiration behind this listserve, I think it is appropriate to acknowledge that today would have been Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 68th birthday.
We are all drawn to Stevie Wonder's music for many reasons. His enormous talents in the field of music are well known and are used admiringly to deliver a message of universal love. Stevie, like Dr. King did, recognizes that life itself is very precious.
Dr. King's life is honored and memorialized with the establishment of the national holiday. However, all people must recognize in their minds and hearts the importance of what Dr. King wanted to accomplish. This day gives us the focus each year to rededicate ourselves to being a partner in the creation of a more harmonious world.
Stevie Wonder has continuously played a significant role in this for many years. He has been an inspiration since the early 1970's through his music and his personal involvement in countless activities. In the early 1980's, Stevie's efforts were the driving reason behind the birthday bill being passed and signed into law in the fall of 1983.
We have come a long way since Dr. King shared his dream in August, 1963, but throughout the world we still have a difficult road to travel. May we all be blessed with living in a world where Dr. King's dream is fulfilled.
Happy birthday everybody,
Kenny
